I believe Randy was in junior high at the time. Like America Online there was another very popular Internet provider which we'll call (censored). Randy had read an article about companies paying hackers to secure their networks. So he took it upon himself to find (censored)'s back door.

Excited by the fact he got into there whole computer network he gave them a call. Whoever answered the phone heard a very young kid telling them that he got access to their whole network and told them how he did it.

(Censored) in turned laughed him off the phone. Not too much later Randy came up with his own online service called Rockaway Online. Little did (Censored) know it but their servers were hosting Rockaway Online and it was growing very rapidly. I believe a large part of Rockaway and some of the surrounding boroughs were on Rockaway Online.

When some of the wealthier business men got wind of it they wanted a piece of the action and wanted it to be a big part of the Rockaway community and make a lot of cash on it. We had a meeting at my house and they wanted to buy it from Randy. Of course they thought him being a kid they could rip him off so the next thing was me throwing them out of the house.

Next thing I knew Randy had the FBI on the phone...then I started to get nervous. Just about the same kind of nervousness as when I came home from work and Randy told me there would be an explosion but no fire... or the time he was baking missiles in the oven. Oh, and the time Randy's Principal called me up and wanted to throw him out of High School because he wanted to show them there was a hole in their network. To prove it he had all the teacher's emails going into his account.
